A Wall Plaque of Good Size by Thomas Kendall

Description

Of tondo form, constructed in hand carved walnut, the ogee swept frame enclosing a naturalistic carving of avian subjects in foliage, with oak leaves and acorns. An early ink inscription on the obverse, ‘T.Kendall, Warwick’ records the artist England, Circa 1880

Provenance

THOMAS HENRY KENDALL (1837 - 1919)
was an apprentice of James Morris Wilcox and after Wilcox's death in 1859 Kendall’s father acquired the Warwickshire based business. Kendall exhibited at the 1862 International Exhibition and was awarded two medals for his work.
